“(Jesus) was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.’" (Luke 4: 17-19)
The spirit of our social mission:
Social mission at Bellarmine is faith in action (“God’s love made real”), an integration of gospel values into our lives through service and education aimed at social solidarity and systemic change. As a Jesuit parish, we seek to embrace work for social justice, service to others and a preferential love for the poor.
Reflecting the breadth and depth of Catholic Social Teaching, our spirit of parish social mission is reflected in a wide range of involvements and ministries locally and globally, and varying from relating directly with the poor through emergency assistance or spiritual retreats, to global solidarity relationships, to advocating for systemic and policy change.
Social Mission Core Team:
A Social Mission Core Team helps to promote and coordinate these efforts, also offering faith-reflection opportunities and evaluation throughout the year.
The Social Mission Core Team and Social Mission Director are available to listen to parishioner ideas, interests and concerns. For more information contact Jeff Campbell, Bellarmine Social Mission, at 745-1908 or campbellj5@xavier.edu. (SMCT meetings are held on the last Wednesday each month in the parish activity room.)
